A Free Oil Change A Quarter Century In The Making

We had a client bring in a coupon and ask if we'd still honor it. He said he knew it was old, so he understood if we wouldn't. As I stood there holding this relic, I asked him: Do you know how old this is? He said: I don't know. I'd guess I've had it about 10 years or so.

Oh no my friend.

It's been longer than that.

Let's do some forensics! We'll start at the top. "Our Welcoming Gift" These went out in gift baskets sent by the now defunct ad company Community Survey (bottom right). They sent them to people who recently moved to the area (imagine doing that now). That's why it's in an envelope with no address on it.

Next, we stopped installing engines back in the teens because we got to busy for huge projects like that, plus by the time a modern car needs an engine it's usually totalled. Jasper hasn't even sent a sales rep around in roughly 15 years.

The last couple really place it in the very early 2000's and with dad on the scene. 1. We were still using the word Repair in the company name to keep people from thinking we sold cars. 2. Matt 6:33 is a verse that dad put above the front door because the business was pulling so much of his attention, he worried about losing focus. 3. We were still open until 6.

If I had to guess, I'd say this went out sometime between 2000 and 2003.

And yes we honored it. If you, or anyone you know, happen to be holding any other antiques of the families, we'll happily change your oil in exchange for their safe return.
